Mindfulness app Calm is coming out with a new app dedicated to sleep, the brand announced Tuesday. Calm Sleep is a standalone app with meditation and mindfulness tools made for bedtime.

The brand is known for its meditative soundscapes and bedtime stories narrated by celebrities, but now it aims to help its users get to bed more easily. It is also the company’s first direct-to-consumer product since the Calm app.

Personalized sleep plan

The app is known for its sleep stories, narrated by celebrities like Harry Styles, Laura Dern, LeBron James, and Matthew McConaughey, and they have been played more than one billion times, according to Calm.

The brand is advertising Calm Sleep as a solution to the endless sleep insights packed into wearables that tell sleepers what they’re doing wrong but offer no solutions to fix their sleep problems. Its new features aim to create “real change toward sleep goals,” Calm writes in a press release.

Users fill out a brief onboarding questionnaire that helps the app generate a personalized sleep plan. This includes recommended content and “sleep-enhancing tasks” (the classics: regular exercise, low stress, finessing the bedtime environment, and media consumption before bed).

As users fulfill their tasks, Calm Sleep’s “Sleep Readiness” bar fills in until it’s completed, so three out of three fulfilled tasks would fill in the bar completely.

Ozlo partnership

With the announcement of Calm Sleep, the brand is partnering with ZDNET’s favorite sleep earbuds, Ozlo, to roll out an earbud collaboration of its own. The Calm x Ozlo Sleepbuds play Sleep Stories, and once the user has fallen asleep the earbuds transition to playing soundscapes. Upon purchase of Ozlo’s Sleepbuds, users can unlock one free year of Calm Sleep’s subscription.

Existing subscribers can take 10% off the earbuds. The collaboration arrives later this year.

Users can now track their sleep in the Calm app when they sync their wearable device, like an Oura Ring or Apple Watch, to Apple’s HealthKit, exclusive to iOS users. Android users will eventually be able to do the same.
