A sleek upgrade<\/h2>\n<p>The first thing I noticed was how sleek the device looks. Amazon says it has 10% more viewing area than the Echo Show 15, but a frame that\u2019s almost 40% thinner. Since I\u2019ll be opting for a wall mount, I wanted something that wouldn\u2019t be too obtrusive. Since my current device is an Echo Show 5 \u2014 the small counter-top version \u2014 it\u2019s not exactly comparable. Still, it\u2019ll be a huge upgrade to go from an Alexa device that shows pictures to something much more capable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Much-needed organization<\/h2>\n<p>The biggest appeal for me is the organization. Amazon says the new Show offers a family hub with color-coded schedules, to-do lists, meal planning, and more. My Google Calendar holds all of that now, but it\u2019s easy to miss a notification. Again, I use Google Calendar for that, but I\u2019ve nearly missed orders in a sea of notifications. An always-on calendar in a high-traffic area of the house would do a much better job of keeping things on my mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/home-and-office\/amazon-echo-smart-home-announcements-october-2026-price-availability\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/home-and-office\/amazon-echo-smart-home-announcements-october-2026-price-availability\/\">The 4 biggest Amazon smart home announcements from this week<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My current Show can display lists and events, but it doesn\u2019t have a permanently present display.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. An upgraded camera <\/h2>\n<p>Another significant upgrade is the camera. My current Show has a camera, but it\u2019s not the greatest, especially at night or in low-light conditions, since it\u2019s 2 MP.&nbsp; The Echo Show 16 features a wide-angle 13-megapixel lens, the widest field of view on any Echo Show device to date. According to Amazon, this doubles the range of Visual ID from 8 feet to 17 feet (from the previous generation). The improved camera on the Show 16 offers a whole new level of functionality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What gives me pause<\/h2>\n<p>My biggest concern? The price. If you add any accessories or upgrade to the anti-glare Nanomatte display, you\u2019re closer to $600. That\u2019s double the price of the similarly sized 15-inch Skylight calendar. At the time I\u2019m writing this, a $100 coupon is available, bringing the price down to $400.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m already heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem, so it makes sense that I\u2019d bring a display into the fold as my new smart home centerpiece.
