{"id":61187,"date":"2026-07-31T16:27:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T16:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/a\/5281924"},"modified":"2026-07-31T16:27:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T16:27:27","slug":"the-most-famous-brand-in-physical-security-got-pwned-by-shinyhunters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/the-most-famous-brand-in-physical-security-got-pwned-by-shinyhunters\/","title":{"rendered":"The most famous brand in physical security got pwned by ShinyHunters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/image.theregister.com\/5241973.jpg?imageId=5241973&amp;x=0&amp;y=0&amp;cropw=100&amp;croph=100&amp;panox=0&amp;panoy=0&amp;panow=100&amp;panoh=100&amp;width=1200&amp;height=683\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<div data-element-guid=\"d11159dd-82a3-4c53-901c-d41dec75505c\" readability=\"30.732824427481\">\n<p class=\"kicker \">security<\/p>\n<p class=\"subtitle \">Hopefully the company secures houses better than it locks down SaaS systems<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div data-element-guid=\"4c9dc5d9-c886-4348-bf4a-01d0dc71377d\" readability=\"80.617880566103\">\n<p>A leading name in home and business physical security, Brinks Home, recently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/brinkshome.com\/cybersecurity-update\">said<\/a>&nbsp;it identified unauthorized access to a portion of its IT systems, an intrusion ShinyHunters claims it carried out to steal millions of records from the security provider&#8217;s Salesforce instance.<\/p>\n<p>Brinks Home hasn\u2019t named the intruder or identified the affected system, but said the responsible party has threatened to leak information it claims to have taken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrinks Home is working diligently to determine what information was involved and who may be affected,\u201d the company statement said. \u201cIf the Company determines that personal information has been affected, it will notify those individuals as required and as appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An FAQ <a href=\"https:\/\/brinkshome.com\/cybersecurity-update-faqs\">page<\/a> for the incident said that Brinks Home products and services weren\u2019t affected, as far as the company knows at this point, so alarms and other security tools should be working without issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While Brinks may not have been very forthcoming with information, and lacks any sort of official way for media to communicate with it outside of sending a LinkedIn message it didn\u2019t answer, the party that\u2019s claimed responsibility has gone public with some details, and it\u2019s none other than ShinyHunters with another claimed Salesforce breach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to leak site monitoring outfit Ransomware.live, ShinyHunters claimed to have obtained more than 4.9 million Salesforce records from Brinks Home \u201ccontaining some PII.\u201d The group threatened this week to leak the data along with causing \u201cseveral annoying digital problems\u201d if Brinks Home didn\u2019t reach out by Thursday, July 30, to negotiate a ransom payment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear if Brinks Home has contacted ShinyHunters; Brinks Home didn\u2019t respond to messages, and contacts <span class=\"italic m-italic \" data-lab-italic=\"italic\">The Register<\/span> has for ShinyHunters appear to have changed, causing message and email rejections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ShinyHunters has been a prolific Salesforce intruder of late, with the group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/security\/2026\/03\/09\/shinyhunters-claims-yet-another-salesforce-customers-breach\/5220118\">claiming<\/a> earlier this year to have stolen data from around 100 high-profile companies\u2019 Salesforce instances. Salesforce has previously warned that an unnamed known threat actor group was actively scanning for public-facing Salesforce instances and abusing misconfigured guest accounts to break in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div data-element-guid=\"afe083ca-6701-48e9-9bd8-f8827dd7fb42\" class=\"lab4 column articleList layout_vertical imageLayout_left small-12 large-12 small-abs-12 large-abs-12 abs_grid_12 grid-vas-start mobile-grid-vas-start\">\n<div class=\"content border_width_0 border_width_mobile_0 border-radius-48 border-radius-mobile_48\">\n<h2 class=\"article-list-title t19 font-RobotoCondensed\">MORE CONTEXT<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Brinks Home is no longer part of the larger Brinks brand, with The Brinks Company telling us it sold the home security arm in 2010. Brinks Home\u2019s parent company, Monitronics, has filed for bankruptcy twice since 2019; for customers\u2019 sake, we hope its physical security services are better than its financial management and
