Healthcare orgs would then have to conduct audits, including penetration testing, to ensure that their security processes and protections were up to par.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the other sections in the bill would provide federal training for health-sector owners and operators on cybersecurity best practices, grants to help providers improve their security posture, and additional support for rural clinics on breach prevention, resilience, and coordination with federal agencies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cyberattacks on our health care sector not only put patients&#8217; sensitive health data at risk but can delay life-saving care,&#8221; <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.help.senate.gov\/ranking\/newsroom\/press\/ranking-member-cassidy-colleagues-introduce-legislation-to-strengthen-cybersecurity-in-health-care-sector-as-part-of-bipartisan-working-group\">said<\/a> href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/02\/29\/alphv_change_healthcare\/\" rel=\"noopener\">locked up<\/a> Change Healthcare&#8217;s systems, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/02\/22\/change_healthcare_outage\/\" rel=\"noopener\">disrupting<\/a> thousands of pharmacies and hospitals across the US and accessing sensitive health data belonging to around <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/10\/27\/senator_domain_registrars_russia_disinfo\/\" rel=\"noopener\">100 million people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It took Change Healthcare <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/11\/20\/change_healthcares_clearinghouse_services\/\" rel=\"noopener\">nine months to restore<\/a> its clearinghouse services after the ransomware infection, which cost the UnitedHealth-owned company more than $2 billion in remediation to date.<\/p>\n<p>The Change ransomware attack also led Warner and
