{"id":57220,"date":"2024-09-26T20:25:05","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T20:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/hpe-patches-three-critical-security-holes-in-aruba-papi\/"},"modified":"2024-09-26T20:25:05","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T20:25:05","slug":"hpe-patches-three-critical-security-holes-in-aruba-papi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/hpe-patches-three-critical-security-holes-in-aruba-papi\/","title":{"rendered":"HPE patches three critical security holes in Aruba PAPI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aruba access points running AOS-8 and AOS-10 need to be patched urgently after HPE emitted fixes for three critical flaws in its networking subsidiary&#8217;s networking access points.<\/p>\n<p>The issues would allow an unauthenticated attacker to run code on Aruba&#8217;s systems by sending carefully crafted packets to UDP port 8211, the operating system&#8217;s Proprietary Access Protocol Interface (PAPI), which would provide that miscreant privileged access to the equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The three vulnerabilities &#8211; <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/CVE-2024-42505\">CVE-2024-42505<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/CVE-2024-42506\">CVE-2024-42506<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/CVE-2024-42507\">CVE-2024-42507<\/a> &#8211; are all rated 9.8 out of 10 on the CVSS severity scale.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/patches&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Zva0A94mEMrMDdLlMzIs6QAAABc&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/patches&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Zva0A94mEMrMDdLlMzIs6QAAABc&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>The flaws affect versions of AOS 10.6.x.x (up to and including 10.6.0.2), as well as Instant AOS 8.12.x.x (8.12.0.1 and earlier versions). Back in May, four critical flaws in the system <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/05\/02\/hpe_aruba_patches\/\" rel=\"noopener\">were fixed<\/a> by Aruba after proof of concept exploit code was released, and then issued more patches less than a week later.<\/p>\n<p>These patches will be of particular concern to sysadmins within the US military. Back in 2020, Aruba scored a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/10\/28\/aruba_pentagon_win_vs_cisco\/\" rel=\"noopener\">major win<\/a> by becoming the preferred supplier to the Pentagon after the military fell out with Cisco and started replacing its kit.<\/p>\n<p>HPE credited the flaws&#8217; discovery to Erik de Jong, a part-time flaw finder whose day job is as a security officer for the Netherlands telco DELTA Fiber.
