The US Department of Justice has accused a now-former senior official of the New York State government of illegally advancing the interests of the Chinese government and communist party.<\/p>\n

Linda Sun, 41, who worked in state government from 2012 to 2023 before being fired, has been charged with violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband Chris Huy, 40, was charged with money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and misuse of means of identification.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile appearing to serve the people of New York as Deputy Chief of Staff within the New York State Executive Chamber, the defendant and her husband actually worked to further the interests of the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party,\u201d claimed<\/a> US Attorney Breon Peace on Tuesday. \u201cThe illicit scheme enriched the defendant\u2019s family to the tune of millions of dollars. Our Office will act decisively to prosecute those who serve as undisclosed agents of a foreign government.\u201d<\/p>\n
