Yes: Even if you&#8217;re just writing a term paper and the document&#8217;s content isn&#8217;t private, there&#8217;s sensitive data attached to the file itself. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Document metadata can contain:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Track changes<\/li>\n<li>Document user information<\/li>\n<li>Author name and dates for comments (notes)<\/li>\n<li>Document versioning information<\/li>\n<li>Printer settings<\/li>\n<li>Timestamps<\/li>\n<li>Editing duration<\/li>\n<li>Document template information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These examples might seem innocuous to some, but for others, sharing any unintended information is a big no-no. This is especially problematic given the collaborative nature of documents &#8212; you might not want other users to have access to that data. It could be helpful to someone creating a profile for nefarious purposes.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s wise to strip as much unnecessary information from documents as possible &#8212; and the developers behind LibreOffice have made it easy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/stop-paying-for-antivirus-software-heres-why-you-dont-need-it\/\" rel=\"follow\">Stop paying for antivirus software. Here&#8217;s why you don&#8217;t need it<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how the new feature works.<\/p>\n<h2>How to strip metadata from LibreOffice files<\/h2>\n<p><strong>What you&#8217;ll need:&nbsp;<\/strong>The only thing you&#8217;ll need for this is the most recent release of LibreOffice (v 24.8), which can be installed and used for free on Linux, MacOS, and Windows. I&#8217;ll demonstrate the process on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/pop-os-has-a-complicated-name-but-it-makes-using-linux-so-easy\/\" rel=\"follow\">Pop!_OS Linux<\/a>, but it&#8217;s the same regardless of operating system.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ba3d0c58-6d27-46e4-b675-ea2fd772f81e\" class=\"c-shortcodeListicle g-outer-spacing-bottom-medium\">\n<div class=\"c-shortcodeListicle_conten\"><!----> <!----> <\/p>\n<div readability=\"8.5\">\n<div class=\"c-ShortcodeContent\" readability=\"37\">\n<p>The first thing to do is open LibreOffice.
