It&#8217;s a vulnerability in DNSSEC implementations that we&#8217;ve known about since February; <em>El Reg<\/em> readers may remember this bug, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/03\/26\/software_risk_scores\/\" rel=\"noopener\">dubbed NSEC3-encloser<\/a>, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to potentially <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/kb.isc.org\/docs\/cve-2023-50868\">exhaust<\/a> CPU resources on a vulnerable system, causing it to stop working as intended.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;CVE-2023-50868 is regarding a vulnerability in DNSSEC validation where an attacker could exploit standard DNSSEC protocols intended for DNS integrity by using excessive resources on a resolver, causing a denial of service for legitimate users,&#8221; Redmond declared on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cso&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZmpHg1D-dbD5JygdpLpA7wAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cso&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZmpHg1D-dbD5JygdpLpA7wAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, the one critical flaw announced \u2013 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/msrc.microsoft.com\/update-guide\/vulnerability\/CVE-2024-30080\">CVE-2024-30080<\/a> \u2013 is a remote code execution (RCE) issue in Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ) and is serious enough that it received a 9.8 out of 10 CVSS severity rating. While it is likely a low number, now would be a good time to audit your networks to ensure TCP port 1801 is not reachable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cso&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44ZmpHg1D-dbD5JygdpLpA7wAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cso&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44ZmpHg1D-dbD5JygdpLpA7wAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>Indeed, Microsoft says: &#8220;You can check to see if there is a service running named Message Queuing and TCP port 1801 is listening on the machine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also the scary-looking <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/msrc.microsoft.com\/update-guide\/vulnerability\/CVE-2024-30078\">CVE-2024-30078<\/a>, a Wi-Fi driver remote code execution hole rated 8.8 in severity. It&#8217;s not publicly disclosed, not yet under attack, and exploitation is &#8220;less likely,&#8221; according to Redmond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An unauthenticated attacker could send a malicious networking packet to an adjacent system that is employing a Wi-Fi networking adapter, which could enable remote code execution,&#8221; and thus remotely, silently, and wirelessly run malware or spyware on that nearby victim&#8217;s computer, Microsoft admitted.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" id=\"story_eagle_xsm_sm_md_xmd_lg_xlg\" data-pos=\"mid\" data-raptor=\"eagle\" data-xsm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-sm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-md=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-xmd=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-lg=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-xlg=\",mpu,dmpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cso&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=3&amp;c=33ZmpHg1D-dbD5JygdpLpA7wAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D3%26raptor%3Deagle%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cso&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=3&amp;c=33ZmpHg1D-dbD5JygdpLpA7wAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D3%26raptor%3Deagle%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>Childs said: &#8220;Considering it hits every supported version of Windows, it will likely draw a lot of attention from attackers and red teams alike.&#8221; Patch as soon as you can: This flaw can be abused to run malicious software on and hijack a nearby Windows PC via their Wi-Fi with no authentication needed. Pretty bad.<\/p>\n<p>On top of this, there are the usual load of elevation of privilege and other code execution holes in Microsoft&#8217;s code to close with this month&#8217;s patches.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Adobe addresses 166 CVEs<\/h3>\n<p>Adobe released ten patches covering a whopping 166 CVEs, with 144 of those affecting <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/experience-manager\/apsb24-28.html\">Experience Manager<\/a>. Only one of the 144 \u2013 a security bypass flaw \u2013 is deemed critical, with the rest rated important and moderate. And luckily none appear to have been exploited in the wild.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/photoshop\/apsb24-27.html\">Photoshop<\/a> update resolved one critical vulnerability that could allow arbitrary code execution, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/framemaker-publishing-server\/apsb24-38.html\">FrameMaker Publishing Server<\/a> has two critical CVEs that could lead to privilege escalation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/substance3d_stager\/apsb24-43.html\">Adobe Substance 3D Stager<\/a> also has a patch for one critical out-of-bounds-write security issue. And the update for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/creative-cloud\/apsb24-44.html\">Creative Cloud Desktop<\/a> fixes a critical uncontrolled search path element that could allow arbitrary code execution.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/magento\/apsb24-40.html\">Adobe Commerce<\/a> update addresses seven critical and three important vulnerabilities that could be exploited for arbitrary code execution, a security feature bypass and privilege escalation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The patch for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/audition\/apsb24-32.html\">Audition<\/a> fixes two important memory leak and application denial-of-service vulnerabilities, while the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/coldfusion\/apsb24-41.html\">ColdFusion<\/a> update fixes two important bugs that could lead to arbitrary file system read and allow an attacker to bypass security features.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s one important out-of-bounds read vuln in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/media-encoder\/apsb24-34.html\">Media Encoder<\/a> that now has a fix. And finally, an important CVE in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/acrobat-android\/apsb24-50.html\">Adobe Acrobat Android<\/a> could lead to security feature bypass.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">SAP security notes a dime a dozen<\/h3>\n<p>SAP released a dozen new and updated security notes (behind a customer paywall) this month, including two high-priority alerts for bugs affecting NetWeaver AS Java and Financial Consolidation on S\/4HANA. Of the two, note #3457592, which patches two cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in SAP Financial Consolidation, received the highest CVSS severity score of 8.1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The more critical one allows data to enter a web application through an untrusted source and manipulating web site content,&#8221; <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/onapsis.com\/blog\/sap-patch-day-june-2024\/\">explained<\/a> Thomas Fritsch, SAP security researcher at Onapsis. &#8220;This causes a high impact on the confidentiality and integrity of the application.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The second high-priority note, #3460407, addresses a 7.5-rated denial-of-service vulnerability in NetWeaver AS Java.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Ransomware crims exploiting PHP<\/h3>\n<p>Open source scripting language PHP this month <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.php.net\/\">released 8.2.20<\/a>, which includes a fix for an RCE tracked as CVE-2024-4577. This critical bug in PHP for Windows is now <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/viz.greynoise.io\/tags\/php-cve-2024-4577-rce-attempt?days=1\">under active exploit<\/a>, and at least one group of criminals is abusing the flaw to distribute <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imperva.com\/blog\/update-cve-2024-4577-quickly-weaponized-to-distribute-tellyouthepass-ransomware\/\">TellYouThePass ransomware<\/a> \u2013 so definitely prioritize updating this code.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Arm under active exploit<\/h3>\n<p>Arm has fixed a flaw in its Bitfrost and Valhall GPU kernel drivers that has already been found and exploited by miscreants.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s tracked as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/developer.arm.com\/Arm%20Security%20Center\/Mali%20GPU%20Driver%20Vulnerabilities\">CVE-2024-4610<\/a> and affects all versions from from r34p0 to r40p0.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A local non-privileged user can make improper GPU memory processing operations to gain access to already freed memory,&#8221; Arm warned, noting that it &#8220;is aware of reports of this vulnerability being exploited in the wild.&#8221; When we find out more about this issue, we&#8217;ll let you know: It could be used by rogue apps and the like to compromise Arm-powered devices, we imagine.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Apple Vision Pro plugs 21 holes, although Android has more<\/h3>\n<p>Apple addressed 21 bugs in its <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT214108\">visionOS 1.2 release<\/a>. None of the flaws are reported as being under exploit at the time of the release.<\/p>\n<p>The worst of the bunch could allow an app to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges \u2013 so if you use Apple&#8217;s 3D camera, install the updated software stat.<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s June security update for Android <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/source.android.com\/docs\/security\/bulletin\/2024-06-01\">patched 37 holes<\/a> across its Android services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most severe of these issues is a high security vulnerability in the System component that could lead to local escalation of privilege with no additional execution privileges needed,&#8221; Google noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, there are seven such high-severity EoPs in the System component, plus another ten in Framework.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Uh, oh, it&#8217;s a SolarWinds CVE<\/h3>\n<p>SolarWinds has fixed an 8.6-CVSS-rated directory transversal flaw \u2013 tracked as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.solarwinds.com\/trust-center\/security-advisories\/cve-2024-28995\">CVE-2024-28995<\/a> \u2013 in its managed file transfer tool Serv-U that could grant snoops read-access to sensitive files on the host machine. Upgrade to SolarWinds Serv-U 15.4.2 HF 2 to plug the security hole.<\/p>\n<p>While there are currently <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cisecurity.org\/advisory\/a-vulnerability-in-solarwinds-serv-u-could-allow-for-path-transversal_2024-068\">no reports<\/a> of this bug being exploited, &#8220;Rapid7 researchers have <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rapid7.com\/blog\/post\/2024\/06\/11\/etr-cve-2024-28995-trivially-exploitable-information-disclosure-vulnerability-in-solarwinds-serv-u\/\">confirmed<\/a> the vulnerability is trivially exploitable and allows adversaries to read any file on disk (including binary files) so long as the path is known and the file is not locked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This could turn into something quite bad.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Fortinet and Cisco join the fun<\/h3>\n<p>Fortinet fixed multiple stack-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities, tracked as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fortiguard.com\/psirt\/FG-IR-23-460\">CVE-2024-23110<\/a>, in the command line interpreter of FortiOS that could allow an authenticated attacker to execute unauthorized code.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Cisco released security updates for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sec.cloudapps.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-webex-june-2024\">Webex<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sec.cloudapps.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-finesse-ssrf-rfi-Um7wT8Ew\">Cisco Finesse<\/a> this month. The Webex Meetings flaw, spotted in late May, was reportedly used by snoops to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/06\/07\/cisco_fixes_webex_flaw_which\/\"
