{"id":55891,"date":"2024-04-19T20:30:11","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T20:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/sacramento-airport-goes-no-fly-after-att-internet-cable-snipped\/"},"modified":"2024-04-19T20:30:11","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T20:30:11","slug":"sacramento-airport-goes-no-fly-after-att-internet-cable-snipped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/sacramento-airport-goes-no-fly-after-att-internet-cable-snipped\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento airport goes no-fly after AT&amp;T internet cable snipped"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento International Airport (SMF) suffered hours of flight delays yesterday after what appears to be an intentional cutting of an AT&amp;T internet cable serving the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The airport <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FlySMF\/status\/1780931150854386056\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">notified<\/a> passengers of an issue with internet connections at both Southwest and Delta airlines facilities at SMF yesterday morning, with the Sacramento County Sheriff&#8217;s Office (SCSO) later <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sacsheriff\/status\/1781038209121861685\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">confirming<\/a> that an AT&amp;T internet and phone line serving the airport was cut in what appeared to be a &#8220;deliberate act.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SCSO spokesperson Sergeant Amar Gandhi <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/smf-att-outages-delta-southwest-flight-delays\/60535191\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told<\/a> local news sources that the sheriff&#8217;s office, which provides security services for SMF, was notified of an issue at 0130 local time yesterday. The airport also isn&#8217;t aware of any additional threats at this time.<\/p>\n<p>SMF listed flight delays of over two hours yesterday, while arrivals were also delayed, KCRA said. Service was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FlySMF\/status\/1781029202768334964\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">restored<\/a> by 1135, the airport said.<\/p>\n<p>The cable damage follows <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/04\/18\/911_outage\/\" rel=\"noopener\">widespread 911 outages<\/a> in the US yesterday that were also attributed to service line damage, though in that case it appeared to be less intentional. Lumen Technologies, which provides 911 services in the affected states of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Nevada, said that its service was disrupted by a third-party company installing new kit.<\/p>\n<p>That said, 911 outages were also reported in Texas yesterday, but Lumen doesn&#8217;t serve that area, we&#8217;re told. Felony vandalism charges are the least the individuals could face, Gandhi told reporters, adding that with the FBI investigating, additional charges could soon be added if a motive is
