{"id":55501,"date":"2024-03-05T19:28:12","date_gmt":"2024-03-05T19:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/fidelity-customers-financial-info-feared-stolen-in-suspected-ransomware-attack\/"},"modified":"2024-03-05T19:28:12","modified_gmt":"2024-03-05T19:28:12","slug":"fidelity-customers-financial-info-feared-stolen-in-suspected-ransomware-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/fidelity-customers-financial-info-feared-stolen-in-suspected-ransomware-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Fidelity customers&#8217; financial info feared stolen in suspected ransomware attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Criminals have probably stolen nearly 30,000 Fidelity Investments Life Insurance customers&#8217; personal and financial information \u2014 including bank account and routing numbers, credit card numbers and security or access codes \u2014 after breaking into Infosys&#8217; IT systems in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fidelity, in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.web.maine.gov\/online\/aeviewer\/ME\/40\/0c98c6d7-c7b3-4bbf-a7fa-8005c61168d6.shtml\">documents filed<\/a> with the Maine attorney general&#8217;s office, miscreants &#8220;likely acquired&#8221; information about 28,268 people&#8217;s life insurance policies after infiltrating Infosys.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this point, [Infosys] are unable to determine with certainty what personal information was accessed as a result of this incident,&#8221; the insurer noted in a letter [<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2024\/03\/05\/fidelity_life_insurance_data_breach_notification.pdf\">PDF<\/a>] sent to customers. However, the US-headquartered firm says it &#8220;believes&#8221; the data included: names, Social Security numbers, states of residence, bank accounts and routing numbers, or credit\/debit card numbers in combination with access code, password, and PIN for the account, and dates of birth.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cybercrime&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZedzUvd4DHiqzqHhrA7rgwAAAVY&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cybercrime&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZedzUvd4DHiqzqHhrA7rgwAAAVY&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>In other words: Potentially everything needed to drain a ton of people&#8217;s bank accounts, pull off any number of identity theft-related scams \u2014 or at least go on a massive online shopping spree.<\/p>\n<p>LockBit <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DarkWebInformer\/status\/1720868655037120602\">claimed<\/a> to be behind the Infosys intrusion in November, shortly after the Indian tech services titan disclosed the &#8220;cybersecurity incident&#8221; affecting its US subsidiary, Infosys McCamish Systems aka IMS. Back then <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/02\/13\/infosys_bank_of_america_leak\/\" rel=\"noopener\">BofA told<\/a> 57,028 of its customers that crooks may have swiped from Infosys names, addresses, business email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security number, and &#8220;other account information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As of now, in addition to disrupting both financial firms&#8217; IT services, it appears that criminals swiped more than 85,000 individuals&#8217; sensitive details.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>Fidelity did not immediately respond to <em>The Register<\/em>&#8216;s inquiries.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve asked Infosys for more information about the break in \u2014 including how the criminals gained access and how much data they stole \u2014 and will update this story if and when we get a response.<\/p>\n<p>The incident, according to letters sent to BofA and Fidelity customers, happened between October 20 and November 2, and disrupted Infosys-provided services to both financial institutions.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\"
