so much so that in 2016 Boeing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-boeing-aftermarket-analysis-idUSKCN12O0EX\" rel=\"noopener\">invested<\/a> to grow its own parts operation, and to secure more revenue from third-parties that make compatible parts under license<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the long-term, as the size of the worldwide commercial airline fleet continues to grow, so does demand for aftermarket services designed to increase efficiency and extend the economic lives of aircraft,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/resources\/boeingdotcom\/company\/annual-report\/2022\/Boeing-2022-Annual-Report.pdf\">stated<\/a> [PDF] Boeing in its 2022 annual report.<\/p>\n<p>The source of the cyber incident remains unclear, although LockBit has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2023\/10\/30\/security_in_brief\/\">claimed<\/a> it cybered the aerospace giant.<\/p>\n<p>According to a screenshot published by VX underground last weekend, the ransomware gang added Boeing to its victims list and gave the company a mere six days to begin negotiations. As its efforts to garner attention suggest, LockBit does not typically shy away from taking credit for ransomware-related endeavours, although the group&#8217;s claims should be considered with a critical eye.<\/p>\n<p>The corporate ransomware gang is prolific.
