{"id":53309,"date":"2023-08-16T15:59:27","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T15:59:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/packetstormsecurity.com\/news\/view\/34912\/Ivanti-Patches-Critical-Vuln-In-Avalanche-Enterprise-MDM-Solution.html"},"modified":"2023-08-16T15:59:27","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T15:59:27","slug":"ivanti-patches-critical-vuln-in-avalanche-enterprise-mdm-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/ivanti-patches-critical-vuln-in-avalanche-enterprise-mdm-solution\/","title":{"rendered":"Ivanti Patches Critical Vuln In Avalanche Enterprise MDM Solution"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Ivanti.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Ivanti has released patches for seven critical- and high-severity vulnerabilities in Avalanche, its enterprise mobile device management (MDM) solution.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>The most severe of the flaws is CVE-2023-32563 (CVSS score of 9.8), a directory traversal bug that can be exploited to execute arbitrary code remotely.\n<\/p>\n<p>Reported by security researchers with Trend Micro\u2019s ZDI, the issue exists in the \u2018updateSkin\u2019 method of the MDM solution and can be exploited without authentication.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied path prior to using it in file operations. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of System,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerodayinitiative.com\/advisories\/ZDI-23-1118\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> ZDI\u2019s advisory<\/a> reads.\n<\/p>\n<p>The latest Avalanche iteration also resolves multiple stack-based buffer overflow bugs that are collectively tracked as CVE-2023-32560 (CVSS score of 8.8).\n<\/p>\n<p>The vulnerability resides in Wavelink Avalanche Manager, which uses a fixed-size stack-based buffer when processing certain types of data,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tenable.com\/security\/research\/tra-2023-27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> explained Tenable<\/a>, whose researchers discovered the issue.\n<\/p>\n<p>An unauthenticated, remote attacker can trigger the vulnerability by sending a crafted message to the service, which could lead to service disruption or code execution.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Two other high-severity remote code execution vulnerabilities were patched with the latest Avalanche release, both discovered and reported through ZDI.\n<\/p>\n<p>The flaws, CVE-2023-32562 and CVE-2023-32564, are the result of a \u201clack of proper validation of user-supplied data\u201d, allowing an attacker to upload arbitrary files and potentially execute code with System privileges.\n<\/p>\n<p>All three remaining vulnerabilities \u2013 CVE-2023-32561, CVE-2023-32565, and CVE-2023-32566 \u2013 are described as authentication bypass flaws in various components of the MDM solution.\n<\/p>\n<p>Ivanti patched all seven vulnerabilities in Avalanche<a href=\"https:\/\/forums.ivanti.com\/s\/article\/Avalanche-Vulnerabilities-Addressed-in-6-4-1?language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> version 6.4.1.207<\/a>, which was released earlier this month. Both Tenable and ZDI, however, released details on these vulnerabilities only this week.\n<\/p>\n<p>While there\u2019s no mention of any of these issues being exploited in the wild, vulnerabilities in Ivanti products are known to have been targeted in malicious attacks.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:<\/strong><a
