{"id":52801,"date":"2023-07-17T13:32:15","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T13:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/packetstormsecurity.com\/news\/view\/34802\/JumpCloud-Says-Nation-State-Hackers-Targeted-Customers.html"},"modified":"2023-07-17T13:32:15","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T13:32:15","slug":"jumpcloud-says-nation-state-hackers-targeted-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/jumpcloud-says-nation-state-hackers-targeted-customers\/","title":{"rendered":"JumpCloud Says Nation State Hackers Targeted Customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Cybersecurity_News-SecurityWeek.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Directory, identity, and access management solutions provider JumpCloud has disclosed customer impact following a nation-state cyberattack.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>After<a href=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/jumpcloud-says-all-api-keys-invalidated-to-protect-customers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> resetting customer API keys on July 5<\/a>, the company revealed last week that the security measure was triggered as part of its response to a cyberattack perpetrated by a \u201csophisticated nation-state sponsored threat actor\u201d. The threat actor or the country allegedly sponsoring it have not been named.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/blog\/security-update-incident-details\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The attack<\/a> started on June 22 with a spear-phishing campaign that led to unauthorized access to a specific area of JumpCloud\u2019s infrastructure.\n<\/p>\n<p>After discovering anomalous activity on an internal orchestration system on June 27, the company reset credentials and took additional security measures.\n<\/p>\n<p>On July 5, after discovering unusual activity \u201cin the commands framework for a small set of customers\u201d, the company reset all admin API keys and started notifying the impacted customers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point in time, we had evidence of customer impact and began working closely with the impacted customers to help them with additional security measures,\u201d JumpCloud said.\n<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s investigation into the incident uncovered that the threat actor injected data into the company\u2019s commands framework. According to JumpCloud, the attack vector has been mitigated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe analysis also confirmed suspicions that the attack was extremely targeted and limited to specific customers,\u201d JumpCloud said, without providing information on the exact number of impacted customers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are sophisticated and persistent adversaries with advanced capabilities,\u201d the company also noted.\n<\/p>\n<p>JumpCloud notified law enforcement of the attack and published a list of<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/july-2023-iocs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> indicators of compromise (IOCs)<\/a> to help other organizations identify similar attacks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are sophisticated and persistent adversaries with advanced capabilities. Our strongest line of defense is through information sharing and collaboration. That\u2019s why it was important to us to share the details of this incident and help our partners to secure their own environments against this threat,\u201d the company said.\n<\/p>\n<p><em>SecurityWeek<\/em> has emailed JumpCloud for additional information on the attack and will update this article if a reply arrives.\n<\/p>\n<p>JumpCloud provides single sign-on,
