Group-IB was founded in Moscow before moving its headquarters to Singapore in 2018. FACCT would tout Group-IB&#8217;s products and services in Russia as a separate entity, allowing Group-IB to have no direct presence in the country.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>Before the security firm split into two entities, Kislitsin worked as the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crunchbase.com\/person\/nikita-kislitsin\">network security lead<\/a> at Group-IB.<\/p>\n<p>The US extradition request seems to be related to earlier charges against Kislitsin, who is accused of ransacking social networking service Formspring in 2012, stealing usernames, email addresses, and passwords, and then trying to sell the stolen database for 5,000 euros a pop, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2023\/06\/28\/kislitsin_indictment.pdf\">2014 indictment<\/a> [PDF] against him.<\/p>\n<p>That indictment was kept sealed by the US until years later, as it was linked to the prosecution of another Russian \u2013 Yevgeniy Nikulin, who was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/07\/14\/russian_hacker_guilty\/\">found guilty<\/a> in July 2020 of compromising LinkedIn, Dropbox, and Formspring, and stealing data on 213 million user accounts.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2020, Group-IB issued a statement about then-employee Kislitsin, who the security firm said was &#8220;mentioned&#8221; by the US Justice Department in relation to the Nikulin case.<\/p>\n<p>According to that 2020 Group-IB <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.group-ib.com\/media-center\/press-releases\/official-statment-gib-cr-16-00440\/\">statement<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Nikulin, who was ultimately <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/09\/30\/linkedin_hacker_prison\/\" rel=\"noopener\">sentenced to 88 months<\/a> in an American prison for his role in the LinkedIn, Dropbox and Formspring data theft, also experienced <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/04\/28\/linkedin_dropbox_hacking_trial\/\" rel=\"noopener\">dueling extradition requests<\/a> from the US
