In Suzhou, officials questioned employees while searching and seizing items from the office.<\/p>\n<p>State-sponsored broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tv.cctv.com\/2023\/05\/08\/VIDEwbZkelveBInDETFEG0k1230508.shtml\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the raid led to the arrest of a senior researcher from a large state-owned enterprise in China \u2013 for providing Capvision&#8217;s foreign clients with intelligence.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZFoX5zjKn36rcTHyvjr1hwAAAMU&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZFoX5zjKn36rcTHyvjr1hwAAAMU&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>The news outlet portrayed the situation as an East versus West conflict, as translated from Chinese:<\/p>\n<p>According to state broadcaster Jiangsu Television, a Suzhou State Security Bureau police officer accused consultants and investigation firms like Capvision of undertaking foreign-related projects and contacting individuals with access to state secrets, both science and defence related, in exchange for money.<\/p>\n<p>The police officer reportedly said state authorities would continue to crack down on consulting and other activities in accordance with laws such as the Anti-Espionage Law.<\/p>\n<p>Last month Beijing expanded Anti-Espionage Law&#8217;s definition of spying and banned the transfer of national security related information. Amendments to the Law also expanded search and seizure powers as well as entry and exit bans to the Middle Kingdom. US memory vendor <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2023\/04\/01\/china_micron_probe\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Micron<\/a> was recently put under investigation for &#8220;security risks caused by hidden product problems&#8221; \u2013 an allusion to China&#8217;s suspicion the Idaho-based firm&#8217;s chips have back doors.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as Sino-US tensions continue to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2023\/04\/21\/taiwan_china_rhetoric\/\" rel=\"noopener\">deteriorate<\/a>.
