In that post an attacker named kernelware &#8211; who also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2023\/03\/08\/acer_confirms_server_breach\/\" rel=\"noopener\">cracked Acer<\/a> &#8211; claimed he\/she had hacked and leaked certificate files, command logs, system configurations, system information logs, archives of their filesystem, python scrips for an Acronis database, backup configuration and oodles of screenshots of backup operations.<\/p>\n<p>Kernelware stated that although the $120 million company is in the data protection and infosec business, it had \u201cdogshit security\u201d and the reason for the breach was that the hacker was bored, so decided to \u201chumiliate\u201d them.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cybercrime&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZAsE5xIqTrPP6TPBjxs6EAAAAMo&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cybercrime&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2ZAsE5xIqTrPP6TPBjxs6EAAAAMo&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>The archive posted by kernelware held a total of 12.2 GBs worth of files.<\/p>\n<p>Acronis CISO Kevin Reed took to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7039783152201998336\/\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn<\/a> to dispute details of the hack.<\/p>\n<div class=\"CaptionedImage Border width_85\" readability=\"7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2023\/03\/10\/acronis_linkedin_breach_response.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2023\/03\/10\/acronis_linkedin_breach_response.jpg?x=442&amp;y=318&amp;infer_y=1\" alt=\"Acronis LinkedIn breach response\" title=\"Acronis LinkedIn breach response\" height=\"318\" width=\"442\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text_center\">Acronis LinkedIn breach response &#8211; Click to enlarge<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Acronis has both <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FalconFeedsio\/status\/1633763436768251907\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> and told <i>The Register<\/i> that no Acronis product were affected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn March 9, a post on BreachedForums mentioned Acronis. We immediately started the investigation. The investigation confirmed that no Acronis products were affected. However, based on the information we have, the credentials used by a specific customer to upload diagnostic data to Acronis Support have been compromised. We are working with that customer and have suspended account access as we resolve the issue,\u201d Acronis told <i>The Reg<\/i> via email.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\"
