China and Russia both <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/04\/05\/boeings_satellite_antijam\/\" rel=\"noopener\">possess<\/a> the capability to disrupt satcoms, recognition that orbital assets have a critical role in terrestrial conflict and degrading them is therefore a likely tactic.<\/p>\n<p>While the initial user of the anti-jamming tech is Space Force, commercial satellite operators are another likely customer.<\/p>\n<p>Afterall, the goal of the Pathfinder program, according to Space Force&#8217;s Space Systems Command (SSC) is to \u201cdemonstrate affordable bandwidth acquisition by gaining long-term access to transponder assets from commercial satellite providers,\u201d presumably without worrying about being jammed.<\/p>\n<p>The program<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ssc.spaceforce.mil\/Portals\/3\/Documents\/PRESS%20RELEASES\/Space%20Systems%20Command%20successfully%20launches%20U.S.%20Space%20Force%20Pathfinder%202%20Hosted%20Payload%20from%20CCSFS.pdf?ver=D039sRpAQoYNrDISSmVOIw%3D%3D\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> [PDF] its third mission in early February \u2013 a transponder known as Pathfinder 2 that went on board Hispasat\u2019s Amazonas Nexus geostationary remote internet providing satellite.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44ZAkGAv72ZdjKKnxJcBTq1wAAANQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44ZAkGAv72ZdjKKnxJcBTq1wAAANQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe ability to augment the current wideband constellation combined with the potential to introduce resilience, will greatly enhance our ability to stay connected in contested environments,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/boeing.mediaroom.com\/news-releases-statements?item=131224\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> chief of tactical satcom acquisition delta at Space Systems Command Charlotte Gerhart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy augmenting current systems with PTES, which is designed to be forward and backward compatible with government and commercial systems, the U.S. DoD and its allies are able to meet the challenges of an evolving battlefield,\u201d said Boeing VP of government satellite systems Troy Dawson.<\/p>\n<p>Boeing is also building a $1.8 billion space-based PTW hub for sensitive and classified information called the Protected Tactical SATCOM Prototype (PTS-P).
