Like E2EE, encryption and decryption only occur on the sender and receiver&#8217;s devices \u2014 the clients&#8217; browsers, in this case. But as Google explained in a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/a\/answer\/10741897#zippy=%2Chow-is-cse-different-from-end-to-end-ee-encryption\">support document<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s not full E2EE, and limited to a select group of Gmail customers, security professionals welcomed the move.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To be clear, this service is very limited and partial. E2EE is not available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, Nonprofits, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, or users with personal Google accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Google already made client-side encryption <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/a\/answer\/10741897\" rel=\"nofollow\">available<\/a> for Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and Google Calendar (beta).<\/p>\n<p>The search and cloud giant has also taken steps to expand E2EE. Google Messages added support in late 2020, and Group messages got E2EE <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/messages\/answer\/10262381?hl=en\">earlier this year<\/a>. Google Chat, however, is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/messages\/answer\/9592174?hl=en#zippy=%2Chow-we-protect-your-data\">not<\/a> end-to-end encrypted.<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s client-side encryption announcement comes about a week after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/12\/08\/apple_encryption_icloud\/\">Apple said<\/a> it
