The South Dakota executive order prohibits not only the use of the platform, but also the downloading of the app, and even just visiting the site on any state-owned device with internet connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>The United States Military and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have taken similar actions. On Monday, South Carolina governor Henry McMaster moved to do the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/governor.sc.gov\/news\/2022-12\/gov-henry-mcmaster-blocks-tiktok-state-government-devices\" rel=\"noopener\">same<\/a> in his state.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the US state of Maryland followed suit via an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/governor.maryland.gov\/2022\/12\/06\/governor-hogan-announces-emergency-directive-to-prohibit-use-of-tiktok-china-and-russia-based-products-and-platforms-in-state-government\/\" rel=\"noopener\">emergency directive<\/a> from Governor Larry Hogan.<\/p>\n<p>Hogan\u2019s directive, however, is more comprehensive than others as it also applies to Huawei Technologies; ZTE Corp; Tencent Holdings, including but not limited to: Tencent QQ, QQ Wallet, and WeChat; Alibaba products, including but not limited to: AliPay; and Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky.<\/p>\n<div government entities, and inappropriate collection of sensitive personal information,\u201d said a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/governor.maryland.gov\/2022\/12\/06\/governor-hogan-announces-emergency-directive-to-prohibit-use-of-tiktok-china-and-russia-based-products-and-platforms-in-state-government\/\" rel=\"noopener\">canned statement from Maryland.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The directive requires agencies to remove any products from state networks, take measures to prevent their installation and restrict networks access to them within 14 days of its issuance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are disappointed that the many state agencies, offices, and universities that have been using TikTok to build communities and connect with constituents will no longer have access to our platform,&#8221; TikTok <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/tiktok-maryland\/maryland-governor-bans-use-of-tiktok-on-state-devices-idUKL1N32W2RW\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> said on Tuesday. \u00ae<\/p>\n<p>
