Microsoft appears to have fixed a problem that saw its Defender antivirus program identify apps based on the Chromium browser engine and\/or Electron JavaScript framework as malware, and suggest users remove them.<\/p>\n

Numerous social media and forum posts<\/a> made over the weekend detail how Windows has produced a warning of \u201cBehavior:Win32\/Hive.ZY\u201d when users run everyday applications like Google\u2019s Chrome browser or the Spotify music streamer.<\/p>\n

Hive is a nasty<\/a> ransomware-as-a-service outfit, so it\u2019s a good thing that Windows Defender antivirus can detect and warn against the presence of its pernicious products.<\/p>\n

But neither Spotify nor Chrome are malware or ransomware (despite their info-harvesting practices).<\/p>\n

Users were therefore a tad miffed at Windows making constant suggestions to the contrary.<\/p>\n
