{"id":47911,"date":"2022-08-09T16:36:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-09T16:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b740cbef-894b-4930-9b1f-242909825531"},"modified":"2022-08-09T16:36:00","modified_gmt":"2022-08-09T16:36:00","slug":"microsoft-edge-adds-a-new-security-layer-for-browsing-unfamiliar-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/microsoft-edge-adds-a-new-security-layer-for-browsing-unfamiliar-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Edge adds a new security layer for browsing &#8216;unfamiliar&#8217; sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"c-shortcodeImage u-clearfix c-shortcodeImage-large\">\n<div class=\"c-shortcodeImage_imageContainer\">\n<div class=\"c-shortcodeImage_image\"><picture class=\"c-cmsImage\"><!----> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/microsoft-edge-adds-a-new-security-layer-for-browsing-unfamiliar-sites\/\" alt=\"microsoft-edge.jpg\" height=\"801.75\" width=\"1200\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p> <!----> <!----><\/div>\n<p> <!----><figcaption> <span class=\"c-shortcodeImage_credit g-outer-spacing-top-xsmall g-color-gray70 u-block g-text-xsmall\">Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Microsoft is adding more security to its Edge browser, which it said will provide an extra layer of protection when browsing the web and visiting &#8220;unfamiliar&#8221; sites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Edge automatically applies &#8220;more conservative&#8221; security settings in enhanced security mode on unfamiliar sites.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-shortcodePinbox c-shortcodePinbox-single g-border-thin-light-top g-border-thin-light-bottom g-outer-spacing-top-medium g-outer-spacing-bottom-medium g-inner-spacing-bottom-small\">\n<h3 class=\"c-sectionHeading\"> ZDNet Recommends <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Enhanced Security Mode gives users an extra protection by switching off just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compilation and enabling additional operating system protections for the browser.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The protections include Hardware-enforced Stack Protection and Arbitrary Code Guard (ACG), which, when combined, make it more difficult for a malicious site to attack an end user, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/deployedge\/microsoft-edge-security-browse-safer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Microsoft<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The new settings are available in the Microsoft Edge version or 104 or later.<\/p>\n<p>All you have to do is go to your settings, go to the &#8220;Privacy, Search, and Services&#8221; tab and toggle on the &#8220;Enhance your security on the web&#8221; function. Then you can select which browsing mode is the best for you, and you are done.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The different browsing modes include &#8220;basic&#8221;, &#8220;balanced&#8221;, and &#8220;strict&#8221;. The difference between the three is how many sites the security mode is applied to. Although the &#8220;strict&#8221; mode offers the most protection, it is not meant for most users since it requires some configuration to complete everyday tasks. So now they are looking for a new route of attack<\/a><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Enhanced Security Mode also allows you to make an &#8220;exception site list&#8221; for websites that you trust and don&#8217;t want the security mode applied to, facilitating your browsing experience while still having enhanced protection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft said enterprise admins can configure this security feature using Group Policy settings, including creating &#8220;Allow&#8221;
