{"id":47830,"date":"2022-08-05T06:57:07","date_gmt":"2022-08-05T06:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/critical-flaws-found-in-four-cisco-smb-router-ranges-for-the-second-time-this-year\/"},"modified":"2022-08-05T06:57:07","modified_gmt":"2022-08-05T06:57:07","slug":"critical-flaws-found-in-four-cisco-smb-router-ranges-for-the-second-time-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/critical-flaws-found-in-four-cisco-smb-router-ranges-for-the-second-time-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Critical flaws found in four Cisco SMB router ranges \u2013 for the second time this year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cisco has revealed four of its small business router ranges have critical flaws \u2013 for the second time in 2022 alone.<\/p>\n<p>A Wednesday <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-sb-mult-vuln-CbVp4SUR?emailclick=CNSemail\" rel=\"noopener\">advisory<\/a> warns owners of the RV160, RV260, RV340, and RV345 Series Routers that the vulnerabilities could allow &#8220;an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The four ranges were whacked with three 10\/10 bugs in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/02\/04\/cisco_smb_routers_critical_vulnerabilities\/\" rel=\"noopener\">February 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2YuzhcbW3y9OfmSH9D2wbHAAAABQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2YuzhcbW3y9OfmSH9D2wbHAAAABQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>This time around the worst of the bugs \u2013 CVE-2022-20842 \u2013 is rated 9.8\/10 on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote\" readability=\"5\">\n<p>Exploitation of one vulnerability may be required to exploit another<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cisco says a vulnerability in the web-based management interface of the RV340, RV340W, RV345, and RV345P Dual WAN Gigabit VPN Routers could allow execution of arbitrary code or cause an affected device to restart unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service condition. &#8220;This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input to the web-based management interface,&#8221; Cisco states.<\/p>\n<p>CVE-2022-20827 is rated 9\/10 and applies to all four of the abovementioned router ranges.<\/p>\n<p>Cisco describes the flaw as &#8220;A vulnerability in the web filter database&#8221; Cisco adds, and means an attacker submitting crafted input to the web filter database update feature and then execute commands on the underlying operating system with root privileges.<\/p>\n<p>At a mere 8.3\/10 CVE-2022-20841 is rated a mere &#8220;high&#8221; A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying Linux operating system. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must leverage a man-in-the-middle position or have an established foothold on a specific network device that is connected to the affected router.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Patching all three flaws \u2013 ASAP \u2013 is advised because Cisco warns &#8220;The vulnerabilities are dependent on one another.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Exploitation of one of the vulnerabilities may be required to exploit another vulnerability. In addition, a software release that is affected by one of the vulnerabilities may not be affected by the other vulnerabilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" products, as it did for its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/06\/16\/cisco_critical_patches\/\" rel=\"noopener\">RV110W, RV130, RV130W, and RV215W<\/a> routers only a
