He pleaded guilty on February 22, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-mdfl\/pr\/cybercriminal-sentenced-federal-prison-decrypting-credentials-thousands-computers\">was sentenced<\/a> on Thursday in a Florida federal district court.&nbsp;The court also ordered Ivanov-Tolpintsev, of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, to forfeit his ill-gotten gains of $82,648 from the credential theft scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2022\/05\/13\/ivanov_tolpintsev_plea_agreement.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documents<\/a> [PDF] detail an unnamed, dark-web marketplace on which usernames and passwords along with personal data, including more than 330,000 dates of birth and social security numbers belonging to US residents, were bought and sold illegally.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cybercrime&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Yn-qhhJidZ7lua55I8PVZQAAANU&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/cybercrime&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Yn-qhhJidZ7lua55I8PVZQAAANU&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>This marketplace traded details on more than 700,000 &#8220;compromised servers,&#8221; according to prosecutors, including at least 150,000 in the US and 8,000 in Florida. The court records say he listed details for about 6,700 servers for sale during this time, and buyers paid at least $82,648 for these compromised login creds.<\/p>\n<p>Ivanov-Tolpintsev&#8217;s sentencing follows several other moves by law enforcement to shut down dark-web activity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In April, German federal police in coordination with US law enforcement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/04\/05\/us_germany_hydra\/\">seized<\/a> Hydra servers and cryptocurrency wallets containing $25 million in Bitcoin, thus shutting down the&nbsp; longest-running known souk.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" id=\"story_eagle_xsm_sm_md_xmd_lg_xlg\" data-pos=\"mid\" data-raptor=\"eagle\" data-xsm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>That same month the US Justice Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/04\/06\/takedown_cyclops_blink\/\">revealed<\/a> details of a court-authorized take-down of command-and-control systems the Kremlin-backed Sandworm cyber-crime ring used to direct network devices infected by its Cyclops Blink malware.<\/p>\n<p>The Feds have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/04\/27\/feds_10m_reward_sandworm\/\">offered<\/a> up to $10 million for vital information on each of six Russian GRU officers linked to the Sandworm
