CYBER is Motherboard&#8217;s podcast and reporting on the dark underbelly of the internet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"29\"><\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s intelligence service accused Russia of running a bot farm that sent around 5,000 text messages to local police and military members asking them to surrender and defect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"25.04347826087\"><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) <a href=\"https:\/\/ssu.gov.ua\/en\/novyny\/sbu-vykryla-novu-vorozhu-botofermu-u-kharkovi-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>announced that it caught and disrupted<\/span><\/a>&nbsp; the \u201cspecial information operation\u201d that was designed to \u201cdestabilize moral and psychological state of Ukrainian security forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span><\/p>\n<div class=\"adph adph--border\">\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"31\"><\/p>\n<p>The message, according to the press release, said: \u201cThe outcome of events is predetermined! (Image Security Service of Ukraine)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"28\"><\/p>\n<p>Judging from the screenshot of the message published by the SSU it appears like the campaign was conducted on WhatsApp. The SSU did not immediately respond to a request for comment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"27\"><\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"33\"><\/p>\n<p>The SSU said that it \u201cquickly discovered and neutralized\u201d the operation but \u201cthe enemy\u201d was able to send 5,000 messages before that happened. According to the agency, the farm was run in an apartment in Dnipropetrovsk, a city in central Ukraine, and \u201cremotely controlled from Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"abc__textblock size--article\" data-component=\"TextBlock\" readability=\"30.696055684455\"><\/p>\n<p>During the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has conducted relatively stealthy malware attacks as well as disinformation and psychological operations.
