{"id":45432,"date":"2022-02-24T14:31:08","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T14:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/cloudflare-buys-anti-phishing-business-area-1-for-162m\/"},"modified":"2022-02-24T14:31:08","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T14:31:08","slug":"cloudflare-buys-anti-phishing-business-area-1-for-162m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/cloudflare-buys-anti-phishing-business-area-1-for-162m\/","title":{"rendered":"Cloudflare buys anti-phishing business Area 1 for $162m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Krazy Glue of the internet Cloudflare has buffed up its email security with the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.cloudflare.com\/why-we-are-acquiring-area-1\/\">purchase<\/a> of anti-phishing firm Area 1.<\/p>\n<p>Area 1 Security is all about pre-emptively tracking phishing campaigns and preventing customer mailboxes being troubled thanks to its INBOX.CLEAN product.<\/p>\n<p>Cloudflare <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudflare.com\/en-gb\/press-releases\/2021\/cloudflare-takes-on-email-security\/\">introduced<\/a> an Advanced Email Security Suite in 2021 and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.cloudflare.com\/tackling-email-spoofing\/\">rolled out<\/a> its Email Security DNS Wizard in September that year. It turns out our employees weren&#8217;t reporting any phishing attempts, because Area 1 was catching all phishing attempts before they reached our employees&#8217; inboxes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fast-forward to 2022, and Cloudflare has decided to splash its cash on the San Francisco-based outfit. The deal is worth approximately $162m, with 40-50 per cent of the price being in Cloudflare Class A common stock and the rest in cash. The deal is expected to close in the coming months, before the first half of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Cloudflare&#8217;s network blocks 86 billion cyber threats each day, according to the company. Area 1&#8217;s technology is a logical fit for its platform, particularly as part of Cloudflare&#8217;s Zero Trust push.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>The acquisition is big one for the internet company, which increased its <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudflare.com\/en-gb\/press-releases\/2022\/cloudflare-announces-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2021-financial-results\/\">revenue<\/a> for 2021 to $656.4m, a jump of 52 per cent from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>It also <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/cloudflare.net\/news\/news-details\/2022\/Cloudflare-Acquires-Vectrix-to-Help-Businesses-Gain-Visibility-and-Control-of-Their-Applications\/default.aspx\">snapped up<\/a> security
