is behind a fake email sent to its customers with details on how to apply for a &#8220;Coronavirus Digital Passport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The email \u2013 sent to applicants and clients of Concept Resourcing, based in Dudley, England, on 14 September and seen by <i>The Reg<\/i> \u2013 claimed users could &#8220;Get your Digital Coronavirus Passports (HPS) today&#8221; and that the email had been sent to a number of undisclosed &#8220;candidates and clients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This email was NOT genuine and formed part of a phishing scam using our Concept Resourcing email address,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44YUW7tzb9fFRre4TpGEuI8gAAAEs&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44YUW7tzb9fFRre4TpGEuI8gAAAEs&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>The company said it believed a &#8220;number of candidate and client email addresses relating to historic interactions had been compromised to conduct this attack.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It told clients it is currently working with its email provider and security team to identify the cause of the breach.<\/p>\n<p>Concept Resourcing told <i>The Register<\/i>: &#8220;From the moment we discovered this issue, we took steps to notify the affected parties about what had happened.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" id=\"story_eagle_xsm_sm_md_xmd_lg_xlg\" data-pos=\"mid\" data-raptor=\"eagle\" data-xsm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-sm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-md=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-xmd=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-lg=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-xlg=\",mpu,dmpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=3&amp;c=33YUW7tzb9fFRre4TpGEuI8gAAAEs&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D3%26raptor%3Deagle%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=3&amp;c=33YUW7tzb9fFRre4TpGEuI8gAAAEs&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D3%26raptor%3Deagle%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>&#8220;We have engaged a well-respected cyber security consultancy to investigate the incident, how it happened and whether there are any steps that could be taken to mitigate the risk of this ever happening again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our investigation is ongoing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The issue of COVID-related scams is nothing new and it seems few people or organisations are immune.<\/p>\n<p>In July, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/vaccine\" rel=\"noopener\">Action Fraud<\/a> \u2013 the UK&#8217;s fraud and cybercrime hotline \u2013 said it had received more than 700 reports of people being sent emails, supposedly from the NHS, offering them a vaccine passport.<\/p>\n<p>These emails \u2013 which often link the vaccine passports with being able to travel or work safely without having to self-isolate \u2013 ask people to click on a link which takes them to an online form where they are prompted to input personal and financial details.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, the online form, along with the URL, are &#8220;NHS&#8221; branded. Again in July, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.journaloftradingstandards.co.uk\/crime\/covid-passport-fraud-warning\/\" rel=\"noopener\">shared concerns<\/a> about &#8220;a phoney email clad in NHS branding&#8221; which told recipients they could &#8220;supposedly apply for a digital vaccine passport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These scams are not the first COVID-related hustles designed to entrap people. Others include fake tests, homeworking scams, and test and trace frauds. \u00ae<\/p>\n<p> READ MORE <a
