He has also been accused of cyberstalking a juvenile, and faces extradition to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>A year ago, the Twitter accounts of various celebrities including Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, former US president Barack Obama, and others <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/07\/15\/mass_twitter_account_hacking_bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were briefly commandeered<\/a> to promote a Bitcoin scam.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\"> <noscript> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2YPiplL@9E2mX3-CO4UFw3AAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2YPiplL@9E2mX3-CO4UFw3AAAAFE&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt> <\/a> <\/noscript> <\/div>\n<p>Tweets sent from the hijacked accounts urged recipients to send $1,000 to a Bitcoin address with the promise that the account holder would send twice as much back. O&#8217;Connor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/07\/17\/technology\/twitter-hackers-interview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to the New York Times<\/a>, was among those who sought to seize desirable single-character Twitter accounts, such as @6.<\/p>\n<p>In an online interview from the same period, O&#8217;Connor told the New York Times that he wasn&#8217;t worried about the police. &#8220;They can come arrest me,&#8221; he reportedly said. &#8220;I would laugh at them.
