JBS Foods, one of the world\u2019s largest meat producers, has revealed it handed over \u201cthe equivalent of $11 million\u201d to resolve a ransomware infection that disrupted operations<\/a> in Australia, the USA, and Canada.<\/p>\n

A statement<\/a> from the company says the decision to pay was made \u201cIn consultation with internal IT professionals and third-party cybersecurity experts \u2026 to mitigate any unforeseen issues related to the attack and ensure no data was exfiltrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a very difficult decision to make for our company and for me personally,\u201d said Andre Nogueira, CEO, JBS USA. \u201cHowever, we felt this decision had to be made to prevent any potential risk for our customers.\u201d The company statement also offers welcome news that \u201cPreliminary investigation results confirm that no company, customer or employee data was compromised.\u201d<\/p>\n
