(Click to enlarge)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAfter closing,\u201d continued Mandia, \u201cwe will be able to concentrate exclusively on scaling our intelligence and frontline expertise through the Mandiant Advantage platform, while the FireEye Products business will be able to prioritize investment on its cloud-first security product portfolio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>About $500m in FireEye shares will also be bought back by its directors. This proved to be a drawback last year when Russian spies <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2021\/05\/11\/solarwinds_ceo_orion_build_system\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">infiltrated the firm via its supplier SolarWinds<\/a>, causing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/12\/14\/solarwinds_fireeye_cozybear_us_government\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">widespread headaches across the US public sector<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More recently FireEye was involved in the US Colonial Pipeline ransomware incident, which was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2021\/05\/13\/colonial_pipeline_ransom\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">partly resolved when the pipeline company paid a $5m ransom<\/a> to obtain a decryptor; not quite the sequence of events described in a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/fireeye-sell-products-business-12-bln-symphony-led-investor-group-2021-06-02\/\">fawning<\/a> Reuters interview with Mandia about the buyout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely impressed by the FireEye Products business and the mission critical role it plays for its customers,\u201d burbled William Chisholm, STG\u2019s managing partner. \u201cWe believe that there is enormous untapped opportunity for the business that we are excited to crystallize by leveraging our significant security software sector experience and our market leading carve-out expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FireEye investors were informed in a conference call yesterday that cyber security spending is expected to reach 3.5 per cent of global GDP by 2030.
