The message highlights issues with the local tea-growing industry, freedom of the press, the alleged corrupt political class and judicial system, and racial, minority, and religious issues.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image image-original shortcode-image\"><span class=\"img aspect-set \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/hacktivists-deface-multiple-sri-lankan-domains-including-google-lk\/\" class=\"lazy\" alt=\"google-lk.jpg\" height=\"auto\" width=\"1200\" data-original=\"https:\/\/zdnet3.cbsistatic.com\/hub\/i\/r\/2021\/02\/07\/f5c083fd-9747-429b-b4ef-6d4b22240e51\/resize\/1200xauto\/7c61c3b5ab3db0de7980e875c3abd7af\/google-lk.jpg\"><\/span><noscript><span class=\"img aspect-set \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zdnet3.cbsistatic.com\/hub\/i\/r\/2021\/02\/07\/f5c083fd-9747-429b-b4ef-6d4b22240e51\/resize\/1200xauto\/7c61c3b5ab3db0de7980e875c3abd7af\/google-lk.jpg\" class alt=\"google-lk.jpg\" height=\"auto\" width=\"1200\"><\/span><\/noscript><figcaption><span class=\"caption\"><\/span><span class=\"credit\"> Image: ZDNet <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This attack took place on Saturday, February 6, just two days after Sri Lanka&#8217;s official national independence day,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Independence_Day_(Sri_Lanka)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-component=\"externalLink\">on February 4<\/a>, which explains the nationalistic message.<\/p>\n<p>NIC.lk, the administrator of the country&#8217;s national LK top-level domain space, confirmed the attack on Saturday in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.fo\/SaUz8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-component=\"externalLink\">message posted on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An issue with the .LK Domain Registration System arose early in the morning of Saturday, February 6th, which affected a few domains registered in .LK,&#8221; the organization said. &#8220;This issue was attended to expeditiously, and the matter was resolved by approx. 8.30 a.m.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka also confirmed the incident in a tweet on its account.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-source\">\n<div class=\"twitterContainer\" readability=\"6.2779552715655\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"6.6964856230032\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With certain .lk domains currently being affected by a malicious redirection, the LK Domain registry is in the process of resolving the issue with TRC &amp; CERT assisting. please contact <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/73gFq0Qc0U\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">https:\/\/t.co\/73gFq0Qc0U<\/a> on 0114216061 hotline to report any issue and for support <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/publicalert?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">#publicalert<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TRCSL (@TRCSL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TRCSL\/status\/1357914298610143232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">February 6, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<section class=\"sharethrough-top\" data-component=\"medusaContentRecommendation\" data-medusa-content-recommendation-options=\"{&quot;promo&quot;:&quot;promo_zd_recommendation_sharethrough_top_in_article_desktop&quot;,&quot;spot&quot;:&quot;dfp-in-article&quot;}\"> <\/section>\n<p>Details about the attack and the number of impacted domains have not been made public. A NIC.lk spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment sent by&nbsp;<em>ZDNet&nbsp;<\/em>on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The attack didn&#8217;t go unnoticed in Sri Lanka, and several users tweeted about it over the weekend, even if the incident was active for only a few hours.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-source\">\n<div class=\"twitterContainer\" readability=\"5.6479750778816\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"5.6479750778816\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Users in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SriLanka?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">#SriLanka<\/a> hv complained that <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bFifSYuMZa\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">https:\/\/t.co\/bFifSYuMZa<\/a> domain is being redirected to a site which highlights issues faced by teaworkers in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/lka?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">#lka<\/a>. Expert <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aselawaid?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" data-component=\"externalLink\">@aselawaid<\/a> tweeted this appears to be a major
