{"id":39022,"date":"2021-01-06T20:35:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-06T20:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/threat-intelligence\/dojs-microsoft-365-email-accounts-compromised-in-solarwinds-attacks\/d\/d-id\/1339842"},"modified":"2021-01-06T20:35:00","modified_gmt":"2021-01-06T20:35:00","slug":"dojs-microsoft-365-email-accounts-compromised-in-solarwinds-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/dojs-microsoft-365-email-accounts-compromised-in-solarwinds-attacks\/","title":{"rendered":"DoJ&#8217;s Microsoft 365 Email Accounts Compromised in SolarWinds Attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/twimgs.com\/nojitter\/darkreading\/dr-logo.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<header><\/header>\n<p><span class=\"strong black\">Three percent of email accounts were breached, the Department of Justice reports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class>Some 3% of Microsoft 365 accounts at the US Department of Justice were breached by the attackers behind the SolarWinds attacks, the DoJ announced today.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks, which the FBI, Cybersecurity &amp; Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and National Security Agency (NSA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/risk\/fbi-cisa-nsa-and-odni-cite-russia-in-joint-statement-on-serious-solarwinds-attacks\/d\/d-id\/1339829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">yesterday confirmed<\/a> were the handiwork of Russian nation-state hackers, affected less than 10 US government agencies via the breach of SolarWinds&#8217; Orion network management software.<\/p>\n<div class=\"teads-adCall\" readability=\"19.875968992248\">&#8220;On Dec. 24, 2020, the Department of Justice\u2019s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) learned of previously unknown malicious activity linked to the global SolarWinds incident that has affected multiple federal agencies and technology contractors, among others.
