He ran the data analytics and political consulting firm as it got <span class=\"link\" section=\"shortcodeLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/facebook-cambridge-analytica-data-mining-and-trump-what-you-need-to-know\/\">embroiled in scandal<\/a><\/span> in 2018 after it improperly accessed the personal information of up to 87 million Facebook users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP2\">Cambridge Analytica, which was linked to Donald Trump&#8217;s 2016 presidential campaign, <span class=\"link\" section=\"shortcodeLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/cambridge-analytica-suspends-ceo-alexander-nix\/\">suspended Nix<\/a><\/span> as CEO in March 2018 after he and other senior executives were <span class=\"link\" section=\"shortcodeLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/cambridge-analytica-election-work-pushes-boundaries-undercover-channel-4-report\/\">caught on video<\/a><\/span> saying they&#8217;d go beyond using data to hurt a client&#8217;s rival political candidate.
