{"id":35238,"date":"2020-05-29T01:36:22","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T01:36:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/ntt-warns-its-singapore-cloud-was-hacked-japanese-customer-data-compromised\/"},"modified":"2020-05-29T01:36:22","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T01:36:22","slug":"ntt-warns-its-singapore-cloud-was-hacked-japanese-customer-data-compromised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/ntt-warns-its-singapore-cloud-was-hacked-japanese-customer-data-compromised\/","title":{"rendered":"NTT warns its Singapore cloud was hacked, Japanese customer data compromised"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2015\/01\/13\/hacked_22.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Global system integrator NTT has said someone hacked their way into its hosting and cloud services and may have accessed 600-odd customers\u2019 data.<\/p>\n<p>A Japanese-language <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntt.com\/about-us\/press-releases\/news\/article\/2020\/0528.html\">statement<\/a> that <em>The Register<\/em> has run through a pair of online translate-o-matic services says the service provider was infiltrated on May 7 via Active Directory services running in its Singapore operations. The intrusion was confirmed on May 11. The Active Directory deployment was accessed remotely and then used internally as a stepping stone to other systems.<\/p>\n<p>While a production server that ultimately came under attack was quickly triaged and the service provider quickly cut off its communications links, the hacker had managed to gain a toehold in an information management server, and reach into the company\u2019s Japanese hosting and cloud services.<\/p>\n<p>621 customers of those services were then within reach of the intruder, creating \u201ca possibility that some information was leaked due to suspicious access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NTT said it\u2019s hardened up since learning of the hack, which it thinks was made possible by an insecure migration project. It is now working with the impacted customers and will reveal as much as it can about the attack without breaching (what remains of) its customers\u2019 confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p>As with any cyber-break-in, this one is embarrassing.
