{"id":34354,"date":"2020-04-10T17:52:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T17:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dd5eeb5d-c47c-4308-960d-e993e080eced"},"modified":"2020-04-10T17:52:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-10T17:52:00","slug":"dutch-police-take-down-15-ddos-services-in-a-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/dutch-police-take-down-15-ddos-services-in-a-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch police take down 15 DDoS services in a week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"img aspect-set\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zdnet3.cbsistatic.com\/hub\/i\/2020\/02\/25\/631c8611-b175-4a3d-9ffb-ea7d09627945\/ddos.png\" class alt=\"DDoS\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a press release published today, Dutch police said they have successfully taken down 15 DDoS-for-hire services in the span of a week, as part of one of their most successful crackdowns against online DDoS service providers.<\/p>\n<p>The DDoS-for-hire websites, also known as DDoS booters or DDoS stressors, allowed users to sign up and launch DDoS attacks against websites and other internet infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Dutch authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politie.nl\/nieuws\/2020\/april\/10\/03-politie-houdt-verdachte-aan-voor-ddos-aanval-op-mijnoverheid.nl.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-component=\"externalLink\">said the takedowns took place last week<\/a>, and they received support from web hosting companies, domain registrars, Europol, Interpol, and the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities did not release the name of the 15 DDoS services.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time in the past six months that Dutch police intervened against DDoS-for-hire services.<\/p>\n<p>In October last year, Dutch authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/dutch-police-take-down-hornets-nest-of-ddos-botnets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">took down an entire web hosting company<\/a> that provided hosting services and backend infrastructure to tens of DDoS botnets and booter services.<\/p>\n<p>Dutch police also participated in an international crackdown against DDoS booters in December 2018, when the FBI and Europol spearheaded an effort that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europol.europa.eu\/newsroom\/news\/authorities-across-world-going-after-users-of-biggest-ddos-for-hire-website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-component=\"externalLink\">took down 15 DDoS booter services<\/a> just ahead of Christmas, a time when most DDoS attacks are known to take place.<\/p>\n<section class=\"sharethrough-top\" data-component=\"medusaContentRecommendation\" data-medusa-content-recommendation-options=\"{&quot;promo&quot;:&quot;promo_zd_recommendation_sharethrough_top_in_article_desktop&quot;,&quot;spot&quot;:&quot;dfp-in-article&quot;}\">\n<\/section>\n<p>In addition to taking down the 15 DDoS services last week, Dutch police said they also made an arrest today. Authorities said they arrested a 19-year-old teen from the city of Breda for launching DDoS attacks against two Dutch government sites on March 20, this year.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the teen attacked MijnOverheid.nl, a portal where Dutch citizens receive documents from the Dutch government, and Overheid.nl, a general-purpose government information portal.<\/p>\n<p>The teen will be arraigned in a
