Who left the &#8216;high privilege&#8217; login for Smart Software Manager just sitting out in the open?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cisco has <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/publicationListing.x\">released fixes<\/a> to address 17 vulnerabilities across its networking and unified communications lines.<\/p>\n<p>The bundle includes one fix for a critical issue and six patches for bugs deemed high-risk vulnerabilities. They include remote access and code execution, elevation of privilege, denial of service, and cross-site request forgeries.<\/p>\n<p>The lone critical bulletin is for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-on-prem-static-cred-sL8rDs8\">CVE-2020-3158<\/a>, a bug caused by the presence of a high-privilege account with a static password present in the Cisco Smart Software Manager tool.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The vulnerability is due to a system account that has a default and static password and is not under the control of the system administrator,&#8221; Cisco said. &#8220;An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by using this default account to connect to the affected system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"promo_article\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2020\/02\/14\/shutterstock_fix_fall.jpg?x=174&amp;y=115&amp;crop=1\" width=\"174\" height=\"115\" alt=\"attempting a fix, man falls down stairs with drill in his hand\"><\/p>\n<h2 title=\"As 1809 is nudged toward the darkness, the Baron of Bork has plans for 1903 and 1909\">Another week, another bunch of Windows 10 machines punched by a patch<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2020\/02\/14\/windows_10_patch_problems\/\"><span>READ MORE<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Because Smart Software Manager handles software licenses and keys, there&#8217;s not a massive risk to sensitive corporate data from this flaw. But an unremovable high-privilege account with a static password is not something anyone wants, so it&#8217;s recommended that admins update their software to scrub the static account ASAP.<\/p>\n<p>Also addressed in this Switchzilla patch bundle were privilege escalation bugs in Unified Contact Center (<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-uccx-privesc-Zd7bvwyf\">CVE-2019-1888<\/a>) and Data Center Network Manager (<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-20200219-dcnm-priv-esc\">CVE-2020-3112<\/a>) along with a code execution bug in NFV Infrastructure Sotware (<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-nfvis-codex-shs4NhvS\">CVE-2020-3138<\/a>) that requires local access.<\/p>\n<p>While denial of service flaws generally are not considered a big risk, they become much more serious when found in network security appliances.
