{"id":27361,"date":"2019-06-18T19:29:12","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T19:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a67bf919-8ad8-4361-9d3d-dfed4b526d75"},"modified":"2019-06-18T19:29:12","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T19:29:12","slug":"mozilla-patches-firefox-zero-day-abused-in-the-wild","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/mozilla-patches-firefox-zero-day-abused-in-the-wild\/","title":{"rendered":"Mozilla patches Firefox zero-day abused in the wild"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"img aspect-set\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zdnet1.cbsistatic.com\/hub\/i\/2019\/06\/18\/f9e39513-cfe9-4700-8730-4a6d4a0c3910\/eb38d6ff05c383fe7bb503c4ed1780c2\/firefox-logo.png\" class alt=\"New Firefox logo\"><\/span><span class=\"credit\">Image: Mozilla<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>The Mozilla team has released earlier today version 67.0.3 of the Firefox browser to address a critical vulnerability that is currently being abused in the wild.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A type confusion vulnerability can occur when manipulating JavaScript objects due to issues in Array.pop,&#8221; Mozilla engineers wrote in a security advisory posted today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This can allow for an exploitable crash,&#8221; they added. &#8220;We are aware of targeted attacks in the wild abusing this flaw.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/saelo.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samuel Gro\u00df<\/a>, a security researcher with Google Project Zero security team, and the Coinbase Security team were credited with discovering the Firefox zero-day &#8212; tracked as CVE-2019-11707.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the short description posted on the Mozilla site, there are no other details about this security flaw or the ongoing attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Based on who reported the security flaw, we can safely assume the security flaw was being exploited in attacks aimed at cryptocurrency owners.<\/p>\n<p>Gro\u00df did not respond to a request for comment from <em>ZDNet<\/em> seeking additional details about the attacks.<\/p>\n<section class=\"sharethrough-top\" data-component=\"medusaContentRecommendation\" data-medusa-content-recommendation-options=\"{&quot;promo&quot;:&quot;promo_ZD_recommendation_sharethrough_top_in_article_desktop&quot;,&quot;spot&quot;:&quot;dfp-in-article&quot;}\">\n<\/section>\n<p>Firefox zero-days are quite rare. The last time the Mozilla team patched a Firefox zero-day was in December 2016, when they fixed a security flaw that was being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/firefox-zero-day-mozilla-tor-issue-critical-patches-to-block-active-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abused at the time to expose and de-anonymize users of the privacy-first Tor Browser<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow browser maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/google-reveals-chrome-zero-day-under-active-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google patched a zero-day<\/a> in its browser in March this year. The zero-day was being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/google-chrome-zero-day-was-used-together-with-a-windows-7-zero-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">used together
