{"id":20026,"date":"2018-11-19T18:05:49","date_gmt":"2018-11-19T18:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/packetstormsecurity.com\/news\/view\/29526\/Vision-Direct-Admits-To-Breach-With-CVVs-Compromised.html"},"modified":"2018-11-19T18:05:49","modified_gmt":"2018-11-19T18:05:49","slug":"vision-direct-admits-to-breach-with-cvvs-compromised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threatshub.org\/blog\/vision-direct-admits-to-breach-with-cvvs-compromised\/","title":{"rendered":"Vision Direct Admits To Breach With CVVs Compromised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vision Direct has admitted customers&#8217; personal and financial data was leaked earlier this month after hackers compromised the company&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n<p>The breach took place between 00:11 GMT on 3 November and 12:52 GMT on 8 November, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.visiondirect.co.uk\/customer-data-theft\">said Vision Direct<\/a>, which purports to be Europe&#8217;s largest etailer of contact lenses and eye care products and services.<\/p>\n<p>Customers who logged in during those times to update their accounts, or anyone creating a new account will have been affected and their data exposed, the company confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Vision Direct stated on its website:<\/p>\n<div class=\"promo_article\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2018\/09\/06\/shutterstock_633100013.jpg?x=174&amp;y=115&amp;crop=1\" width=\"174\" height=\"115\" alt=\"British Airways website\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 title=\"380,000 payment cards, personal info slurped by crooks\">&#8216;World&#8217;s favorite airline&#8217; favorite among hackers: British Airways site, app hacked for two weeks<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2018\/09\/06\/british_airways_hacked\/\"><span>READ MORE<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Vision Direct said that given the nature of the breach, no data previously stored in its database had been affected by the hack. It claimed the breach had been &#8220;resolved&#8221; and the website was again running normally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are working with the authorities to investigate how this heft occurred,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>Customers with concerns can call the customer services team on 020 7768 5000 from the UK and 1 800 870 0741 from the US.<\/p>\n<p><em>El Reg<\/em> is already aware of one report of a Vision Direct customer who claimed to have received notification from their bank of multiple transactions of just under \u00a3250 made to companies that they&#8217;d never heard of.<\/p>\n<p>Security researcher Scott Helme told us the latest attack appeared to be similar to events at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2018\/09\/06\/british_airways_hacked\/\">British Airways<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2018\/06\/27\/ticketmaster_support_bot_hack\/\">Ticketmaster<\/a> in which the crooks exploited &#8220;third party dependencies or weakness in the application itself&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested it could be the type of breach where &#8220;the attackers install a card skimmer on the website and skim data as users type it rather than steal a heap of information from a database&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Helms encouraged security folk to follow some <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsc.gov.uk\/guidance\/ncsc-advice-malicious-software-used-illegally-mine-cryptocurrency\">advice given by NCSC<\/a> following attacks earlier in the year when UK government
